JULIE COLBY, Owner and Founder of Lady’s Slipper Wellness
Imagine driving home from work and seeing a little girl with mismatched pigtails walking down the street with an enormous pot overflowing with soup. That is a snapshot of me at six. I went door-to-door selling vegetable soup so that my neighborhood would have access to healthy food. I also dreamed about owning my own flower shop, where I would create inspired bouquets custom tailored for each individual’s needs, while spreading beauty, happiness, and something natural to those around me.
I am living my dream. I work with a fully stocked Chinese herbal apothecary at Lady’s Slipper. Instead of creating floral arrangements, I make medicinal blends out of botanicals. When you are at Lady’s Slipper working with me, I will offer a bowl of homemade nourishing soup to anyone who wants it. This is an offering from my heart and reflects my steadfast belief that inspired food is medicinal and empowering.
I received my bachelor’s degree in Womens Studies at Smith College and my masters degree from the American Academy of Acupuncture. I am NCCAOM certified and am a licensed acupuncturist by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. I have the honor of being on the Penny George Integrative Medicine team treating Mother Baby patients at United Hospital in St Paul, MN. I reside in Northeast Minneapolis with my husband and two youngest sons. Some of my other interests include painting, running, making elixirs and medicinal blends, seeing live music, anything involving food and traveling. My three favorite places in the world are Israel, New Mexico, and Muir Woods. I dream of a world where mothers are honored and revered and birth is viewed as a normal and natural physiological journey.
